Industry Data Shows Friendster's Leadership Position Across All Age Groups and in User Engagement in Singapore

Friendster, Inc., a top-20 global website based on traffic and the #1 social network in Asia, today announced that it has more unique visitors in Singapore than any other social network in each and every age group -- including all of the adult age groups.* Friendster is almost 2 times larger than Facebook and more than 6 times larger than MySpace in Singapore, according to the third-party, well-known Internet measurement company comScore. Friendster had 974,000 unique visitors in August 2008, compared to Facebook at 544,000 and MySpace at 157,000.* Friendster also announced that it continues to be #1 in user engagement in Singapore, an important metric of how much time the average visitor spends on a web site.

Friendster has more unique visitors than any other major social network in Singapore in each and every age group from age 15 to 54, and Friendster leads in all three adult professional age groups, 24-34, 35-44 and 45-54.

Specifically with adults:

-- For users 25-34 years old, Friendster is 1.5 times larger than Facebook and 6 times larger than MySpace. Friendster has 246,000 unique visitors while Facebook has 166,000 and MySpace has 41,000.

-- For users 35-44 years old, Friendster is 1.4 times larger than Facebook and 4.7 times larger than MySpace. Friendster has 146,000 unique visitors while Facebook has 105,000 and MySpace has 31,000.

-- For users 45-54 years old, Friendster is 1.6 times larger than Facebook. Friendster has 135,000 unique visitors while Facebook has 82,000. (MySpace data not available for this age group).

Specifically with youth:

-- For users 15-24 years old, Friendster is 2.7 times larger than Facebook and over 6.5 times larger than MySpace. Friendster has 327,000 unique visitors while Facebook has 119,000 and MySpace has 50,000.

In the combined 25-54 adult age range, Friendster has 527,000 monthly unique visitors and is 1.5 times larger than Facebook in Singapore.* This is great news for brands, advertisers and marketers looking to reach this attractive and large demographic segment.

In addition to leadership in the number of unique users, Friendster also leads all other social networking sites in Singapore in the key metric of user engagement -- the average number of minutes per visitor per month. In August, visitors to Friendster spent an average of 107 minutes on Friendster compared to 102 minutes on Facebook and 44 minutes on MySpace, making Friendster the most social and engaging of all three networks.*

"Data from comScore also shows that between May and August 2008, Friendster's unique users grew faster than any other social network in Singapore," said Jeff Roberto, director of marketing and PR at Friendster. "Our internal data shows even larger numbers for Friendster users in Singapore across all age groups, as comScore data does not include traffic coming from Internet cafes and mobile devices. Since both are common ways for users in Singapore to access Friendster, we've recently launched a new mobile site m.friendster.com and a new mobile text alerts feature to address the demand for mobile social networking in Singapore. Now, we're going to be staffing up our sales and marketing team in Singapore to meet the needs of the local market," Roberto said.

August 2008 metrics from comScore also reveal that Friendster has relatively low overlap with other social networks in Singapore. Users of Friendster generally did not visit other social networks. For example, only 34% of Friendster users visited Facebook and only 12% visited MySpace in August. This is not the case for other social networks, where 62% of Facebook users and 76% of MySpace users visited Friendster in August.*

In my opinion, the bulk of online advertising budgets should be going to sites where users are spending excessive amounts of their time, which today, are social media sites.
