Some employers are now extending e-recruitment methods to include the use of social networking sites, it has been discovered.

Onrec.com has reported on a new survey by CareerBuilder.co.uk in which 27 per cent of employers said they use or plan to use sites such as Facebook and MySpace to research potential job applicants.

Some of the reasons bosses listed for hiring an employee, based on their social networking profile, were communication skills, evidence of awards and qualifications, good references posted about them by others and a wide range of interests.

Tony Roy, managing director of CareerBuilder.co.uk, said: "Candidates can use their profiles to better position themselves, network and provide additional information that cannot be found on a resume."

It was recently reported by Recruiter that recruitment in the travel industry is likely to stay strong during the economic downturn.
